I’m really into baking lately and these lemon cupcakes are something that I have to share! They tasted just as yummy as they look, and by using my iphone 4 camera I got a great shot of my lovely creations. I am impressed at how sharp the camera is and how it picks up detail so well! Who’d of thought a phone camera could look as good as an SLR?
My friends mum creates cakes for weddings, birthdays, etc. and she needed professional photographs of her designs to display in a portfolio for her business. I obviously jumped at the chance as it was a great opportunity for me to get some experience with product photography, outside of uni.
I used my Nikon D40x, a tripod, a white blind as a backdrop and natural lighting. We set up the layout in the conservatory as this was the best place due to lighting.
It worked well at first as the lighting hit the cakes perfectly, however, the lighting gradually moved and it became darker. It was a problem at first, but then we moved the setting to a different position to make it work.
It was good fun to do this project and it will be on going which will be great to do :)
The only thing I could do with is a flash gun or a little lighting kit set.
Well I haven’t wrote on here for sometime. I think I need to start posting regularly, maybe then I will get back in to the creative mind.
So since I finished University I haven’t really been doing much photography which was a bad move. It doesn’t mean i’m not interested in doing it anymore, it’s just difficult to get myself motivated with self projects. I have been getting creative with textiles related projects and an awful lot of baking, so I haven’t completely lost my creative juices.
After nearly a year off university, it is about time I did something. I want to get in to the creative industries, doing something exciting, even if it isn’t photography. I would be happy working in a magazine, doing reception work or page designs, as long as it means me being in an environment in the right direction of a creative career.
If anyone has any advice for me for a step in the right direction then i would be so grateful!

Hey, aw thank you so very much for finding me and sending me this message :) it means a lot to hear someone compliment my work. It is a hard industry to get into so at times the thought of giving up does pop up, but messages like yours are encouraging to carry on doing what I love :)
I was nominated for a scholarship at the the school of communication arts by one of my tutors, so Yesterday I went for my interview down in London. This was the first time that I had travelled to London by myself so it was a little nerve racking but yet exciting at the same time.
The school wasn’t what I pictured it to be. It was an old church hall that had been converted into a studio, full of desks and macs with a stage that I was soon to be standing on to give a presentation on my work.
There was only 5 people there to be interviewed so it was not as intimidating as I thought it would be and the teachers were all very welcoming and relaxed so the whole interview was really informal and laid back.
During the day, we were individually pulled aside to have a chat with one of the teachers. This is when I realised that this school would not be right for me. This advertising agency is more about the idea process, instead of the final product. They don’t take the photos or create the illustration, they are more just like an idea generator. Where as I want to create the final product.
I have never been informed on how I can get into the industry by just being an image retoucher, or a photographer for advertising, so Chris (one of the mentors) kindly gave me a couple of numbers of people in the creative industry that do what I would be interested in doing. This way I can speak to someone who knows exactly what to do to get into this business.
Even though the school wasn’t right for me, I found the day really helpful and eye opening, and if I didn’t go then I would of been disappointed in myself for not trying something. At least now I know the actual process of advertising.
Graduate exhibitions are taking place across the city and we’ve put together a gallery of our favourite talent.
‘My work examines the role of the model within the fashion industry and questions the role of the person and the clothing…
My work at freerange 2011.
Freerange is the biggest graduate show in london where universities across the UK come together to exhibit their best work.
My light boxes looked great in the space and it felt amazing to have had put so much effort in to my work and then people saying that they like what I have done. My business cards were flying off their holder and one gentleman even spoke to me about showcasing my images on an online magazine. In all it was a successful opening night. Now I wait to see what will come of it.
